Admissions Process
Choosing a new school for your child is a big decision. Everything you need to know about a school cannot be gained by simply looking at the school’s website or reading its handbook. In order to make an informed decision, you need to meet the staff and see how your child interacts with the other students at the school. Calvary Christian School understands all this and has designed its admissions process to meet these needs, arming you with the necessary information to make an informed decision.
Step 1: Educational Success Consultation
Whether you have made the choice to enroll your child in Calvary Christian School or you are still considering your options, we invite you to schedule an Educational Success Consultation. As a Christian ministry, our desire is to be a help to your family. You will have the opportunity to meet with our principal, Rick Mattish, who has over 20 years of experience in education. The consultation will focus on the goals and aspirations you have for your child, with the intent of providing you information that will help you make wise educational choices. You will also learn more about the possibilities available to your child at Calvary Christian School.
In addition, the consultation will help us better serve your child should you decide to enroll him or her at CCS. Please call our secretary, Bernadette Lenhert, at 831-637-2909 to begin the admissions process by scheduling an Educational Success Consultation. Both parents are encouraged to attend. At the end of the Educational Success Consultation, you will be invited to schedule a Shadow Day for your child.
Step 2: Shadow Day
A Shadow Day is an opportunity for your child to attend his or her potential new class. This will give your child an opportunity to meet the teacher and other students while taking part in the class activities for the day. We call this a “Shadow Day” because your child will be paired up with another student of the same gender for the day. Your child will “shadow” his or her new friend, and the two will participate in the class activities together throughout the day. We are confident that this will be a positive experience for your child.
After the Shadow Day, you will have the opportunity to find out how your child is responding to his or her potential new teacher and school. This should be very helpful to you as parents when making a final decision regarding enrolling your son or daughter at Calvary Christian School.
Step 3: Apply for Enrollment
To begin the enrollment process, you will need to submit an Application for Enrollment form along with the registration fee. Next, you should schedule an administrative interview for your child to meet with our principal, Rick Mattish. The goals of this interview include answering any questions you or your child may have, gathering information that will help our teachers better prepare to teach your child, and determining your child’s spirit of cooperation and teachability. In addition to these items, the following are needed at each grade level before a final decision of acceptance can be made:
- Kindergarten – A kindergarten readiness test must be completed. This test is usually taken at the time of the administrative interview.
- Grades 1-6 – A form giving CCS permission to obtain copies of academic, behavioral, and attendance records from your child’s previous school must be filled out. Most students will also need to take a placement test which is usually scheduled back-to-back with the administrative interview.
- Grades 7-12 –A form giving CCS permission to obtain copies of academic, behavioral, and attendance records from your child’s previous school must be filled out. Most students will also need to take a placement test which is usually scheduled back-to-back with the administrative interview. Also, our grades 7 to 12 program is a discipleship program where students are expected to be in regular church attendance at an evangelical church of like faith. A “Pastor Recommendation” form needs to be filled out by your pastor and submitted to our school office.
After receiving the above information, you will be notified of our decision regarding your child’s enrollment application.
Step 4: Apply for Financial Aid (if needed)
For those who need financial aid, scholarships are available. Financial aid must be applied for and approved by our financial aid company.
Step 5: After Acceptance
Before your child’s first day at Calvary Christian School, you will need to submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate and up-to-date immunizations record unless they have been forwarded from your student’s previous school. You will also need to fill out an “Emergency/Medical Information” card. If you think your child may be in the before- or after-school extended care at any point during the school year, then you will need to fill out and submit an “Extended Care Agreement” form.
Each of these steps help the enrollment process flow smoothly and aid in ensuring your child has the best experience possible here at Calvary Christian School. We look forward to partnering together with you in teaching your child.
